Charlotte's Web

Well I missed out on adding a dog to the collection on this blog, so I thought I'd throw in a pig illustration. I just finished this one today. Coincidentally it's for Charlotte's Web, which always makes me think of springtime. There are so many great descriptions of the countryside, and of course Wilbur is a spring pig!

Waiting for spring

I found these sketches that I made last year, and they really make me look forward to the spring.

Strange creatures

Do they have magical powers? I think so. I looked at some old work and I found these guys. Watch out, they may hypnotize you with their big eyes!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year! Here is a poster I did for Scholastic to bring in the year of the Pig.
Here is a close up of the Chinese zodiacs. The art director asked if I could do the Chinese characters too. The animals in English will also be next to the characters. I enjoy doing these projects very much- bringing my culture into my work but in a fresh new way.

This place is definitely going to the dogs!
Okay I definitley lean more towards cats for some reason. But here a little doggie that I created for a birthday card for Great Arrow Graphics.

I liked this little guy so I also created an "I'm sorry" card...

Had to join in with all the doggie love! This is an old one but still one of my favourites.

Who let the dogs out around here?!?

I got inspired by all the dogs! Here's a couple of quick sketches of our family dog, Oliver. He's still a puppy.

And Puppies, Too!

Yes, dogs are a hoot to draw! I have a present project I'm working on in which the dog is the main character, so I thought I'd chime in on with the dog posting. This quick sketch is from some warm-up drawings I was doing to prepare. I love loose line work and the spontinaity of the lines when it comes to these quick sketches.

Dogs

I tend to use a lot of dogs in my work. A lot!! Maybe because dogs add playfulness or because I'm a dog person. It's also probably the reason why I don't draw cats very well. Why add in a cat when you can add in a dog?

Exhibition of illustrations

Each January Grafill gallery in Oslo have an exhibition of the illustrated Norwegian books published during the previous year. This year they showed about 700 illustrations, including a few of mine. A lot of the exhibition consists of original artwork so they borrowed 2 of my original watercolors from the book "Kaptein KrÄkes hevn" (the Norwegian translation of The "Legend of Captain Crow's Teeth" by Eoin Colfer). I've always loved this exhibition, and it was fun to finally be a part of it!
