Just finished a new book

Here's a tiny detail from one of the illustrations I made for the latest book I illustrated. All the artwork is finished and delivered, so now I'll just wait and see how the final book turns out. It was a fun project, perfect for my illustration style, so I'm very excited. I'll show you more once the book is published at the end of the year.

What I'm Working On Right Now (Paula)

These images are a part of a greeting card I just finished up for a client. I had originally planned to do the art in a pen & ink style (second image), but did an entire version in a more rendered style (first image. Hey, I just noticed the piping around the cake bottom looks like a little like hot dog links! Not good). I opted for the pen & ink style in the end, though I like the first one as well. It was other parts of the image (not shown) that tipped it towards the latter style. Here's hoping the client is happy. : )

What I'm working on at the moment

At the moment I'm painting final illustrations for a book I'm illustrating. Can't show you much at this time, but here's a sneak peak of one of the sketches. Looks happy, doesn't he?

Paula On "Birds"

I'm presently working on an emergent reading book which has a few birds in it. The two birds above are a segment pulled from a two-page spread. They aren't main characters here, but placed in the spread to add a little interest. For this particular job, I'm working in pencil for the line work, which is giving it a softer affect.

Bird

If you know my work you have probably noticed that there's a bird in almost all of my illustrations. I used to draw a lot of characters with birds on their heads. I have no idea why these birds always pop up in my work, but I'm quite found of them.

Numbers (Paula)

This is a greeting card I created for RSVP cards last year. It's in a tighter, more rendered style than I've been working in lately, but I like working both ways. The image is digital, done in Painter.

What I'm working on at the moment

I've just started making some animal sketches for a new book I'm going to illustrate. All I can tell you for now is that it involves a kitten and a puppy. This will be fun!

Numbers

I've painted several cards recently. A few of them has numbers on them, like this one. It was fun to work on.

Play (Paula)

The above is a poster I did for Living the Good News as part of a Sunday School curriculum package. These posters are always a fun job as I have total control over almost every aspect of them. I'm just sent the title and copy and told, "Create!" I think this was done in the last year. What I like about it is the looseness of the spots and line work. I also like the way I handled the kids. They are in a fun style. Hand lettering is always a challenge as you have to make sure all is legible in the end. Here I pulled the spots out and part of the lettering so it can be better seen. These posters are about playing games but also learning as you play.

Oh...Something's missing. There's supposed to be lettering on the hands. It must be in another variant that has that. And yes...Those are my hands. : )
